Writers' Block finally has a home and we'd like you to come and
celebrate with us on Friday 2nd July 2010!
Our doors open at 1pm for a prompt start at 1.30pm. So far our
confirmed guests include representatives from the BBC Writersroom North,
Northern Film & Media and Live Theatre, and they'll be running Q and
A’s with a range of successful novelists, screenwriters, poets and playwrights
from the region.
You will gain valuable insight into how some of the region’s most
successful writers got their first big break, learn about their top tips and
working practices and hear about the many opportunities available to writers of
all levels, straight from the people who can help you.
This will be followed by a chance to see some of the work produced
by Writers' Block members so far, and learn from the feedback given by our
expert panel.
Then you will have the opportunity to participate in a 1-hour
writing challenge, working in groups with experienced practitioners and
producing either a short film, a play, a comedy sketch, a performance poem or a
'zine.
At 5.30pm we'll take a quick break for everyone to go out and find
some food (giving us some time to edit the short film and rehearse the play and
sketch!) and then we'll come back together at 7.30pm, when the celebrations
continue at Blu Bar on Albert Road. There will be networking opportunities,
performances by an amazing line up of local talent including stand-ups,
performance poets, ventriloquists and award-winning novelists, and there’ll be
a whole range of writing challenges (look out for the helium balloons) to keep
us busy ‘til the doors close at 10.30pm.
THESE TICKETS ARE FOR THE DAYTIME PART OF THE EVENT ONLY. We're
capping numbers at 60 for the day event - so please only sign up if you're sure
you can attend! The evening event is free for everyone to attend. We hope to
see you all there - for the start of something really special!

Calling all North East writers, performers, artists, musicians, photographers, film makers, animators, comedians, radio producers, illustrators, editors, designers... people who make stuff and people who'd like to make stuff...
We want you to meet each other, and share ideas, and get interesting things made, and then we'd like to show your work to the world.
Writers’ Block will provide a service for new and established writers. It will play host to regular training events to teach writers new skills. It will provide networking opportunities, introducing them and their work to industry professionals.
Writers’ Block will provide facilities and resources to enable writers to get their work in to print, on film and performed to an audience. It will provide opportunities for writers to work alongside emerging actors, crew, animators, musicians and artists. Writers’ Block will put writers in direct contact with prominent agents and publishers from the literary and media industries.
